Shin Seon-gyeong served as third inspector of the Office of the Inspector General in 1456, the first year under the reign of King Sejo, and later as administrator of the Central Council. The Geochang Shin clan was founded by Shin Su from Kaifeng, China, of the Song dynasty, who came to Gaeseong, the capital of Goryeo, as a Song delegate, and became naturalized as a Goryeo citizen and the progenitor of the clan.

The grave of Shin Seon-gyeong lies next to the grave of his wife. A gravestone and a stone altar are placed between the twin graves. The gravestone, with a lotus flower shaped cap, is considered a valuable resource in the study of ancient gravestones. Near their graves is the grave of Ryu In-ho, who served as second minister in the Board of Works and was the husband of Shin Seon-gyeong's daughter. The couple was interred in the same grave.
